   A trader from?Sri Lanka?used to visit Chidambaram each year for the darshan of Lord Nataraja on the Tiruvadhirai day.??His ship was caught in a tempest and could not go beyond Kulasekharan Pattinam.??He cried loudly that he had lost that precious day.??Lord Shiva decided to grant darshan to His devotee here.??The trader heard a voice advising him to follow ants going on a line and stop where the line ended.??The trader was happy to follow the ants? line.??Lord granted the trader His Tiruvadhirai darshan at this place.??The trader built a temple here and named the Lord Chidambareswarar, thus goes the Sthala Purana ? local history.
